Recruitment FAQ
QUESTION: What IS A PNM?
Answer:
PNM stands for a potential new member. If you are rushing this fall, then you are a PNM. There are currently over 1,000 PNMS registered for recruitment, and we can’t wait to meet every single one of you!
QUESTION: What IS A PI CHI?
Answer:
A Pi Chi (pronounced PIE-KAI) is essentially a camp counselor–but for recruitment–who has temporarily disassociated with her sorority. For each group, two Pi Chis will lead approximately 30 PNMs. Together, they will guide PNMs throughout the entire recruitment process… and all over campus. They are a point of contact for PNMs and jobs are to listen, support, encourage, and discuss anything a girl might need during rush.
QUESTION: What DOES PANHELLENIC MEAN?
Answer:
The term panhellenic refers to all 13 National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sorority chapters at UofSC. Stay up to date with all panhellenic recruitment information by following @uofscpanhellenicrecruitment on Instagram!
QUESTION: What IS A CHAPTER?
Answer:
The term chapter refers to a specific location of a sorority at a particular university or college. For example, we are the Beta Epsilon chapter of Alpha Delta Pi here at the University of South Carolina. However, ADPi at Clemson University is the Zeta Nu chapter.
QUESTION: What IS BID DAY?
Answer:
Bid Day refers to the unforgettably magical day where PNMs “run home” to their sororities to accept their bids. In pre-covid years, all PNMs would gather in the Colonial Life Arena, where a t-shirt would be placed behind their backs and, once revealed, showed their sorority. All new members would be paired with their bid day buddies and go to Greek Village to see their chapters’ houses decorated in a special theme. On top of all that, Pi Chis reveal their chapter affiliations!
QUESTION: HOW DO I REGISTER FOR RECRUITMENT?
Answer:
To register for recruitment, you must use Campus Director. Select “University of South Carolina Panhellenic Sororities” from the drop down list and create an account. The form to register will take about 30 minutes to complete, as general resume information (GPA, activities, community service, etc) and guardian contact information must be filled out. Registration ends on July 15 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
*It is important to note that your account will NOT be saved and registration is NOT complete until all required fields have been completed and your payment has been processed.
QUESTION: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO REGISTER FOR RECRUITMENT?
Answer:
There are three time periods that determine the cost of registering for recruitment.
Early Registration (May 1 - May 31 at 5 p.m. EST) - $175
Regular Registration (June 1 - June 30 at 5 p.m. EST) - $185
Late Registration (July 1 - July 31 at 11:59 p.m. EST) - $195
QUESTION: DO I NEED TO SUBMIT A LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION?
Answer:
Letters of recommendation are not required to submit, as your time spent with chapter members during recruitment is more beneficial in learning more about you. However, if you are aware of an ADPi alumna who is looking to write you a letter of recommendation, she can visit www.alphadeltapi.org/, click on the “Alumnae” tab, and select “Recommend a Potential New Member” from the dropdown list.
QUESTION: HOW LONG DOES RECRUITMENT LAST?
Answer:
Recruitment this year will technically last nine days. However, in pre-Covid years, it would all be in one week! From August 12 to 21, PNMs will go through all four rounds of recruitment before running home on Bid Day, August 22, 2021.
QUESTION: What SHOULD I WEAR FOR EACH ROUND OF RECRUITMENT?
Answer:
The short and easy answer is whatever you feel most confident and comfortable in! But for a closer look into rush fashion, check out “What To Wear During Recruitment,” our blog post from last year. We will be publishing a new blog post soon to detail exactly what to wear for each round of recruitment. Check back in July for your recruitment style guide!
