Recruitment Style Guide

Writer's picture: Anna HeidelAnna Heidel

Can you believe recruitment starts next month? PNMs, you all have worked so hard on registering for recruitment (last day to register is July 31!), completing your mandatory online workshops (due on August 4!), and staying up to date on EVERYTHING (follow @uofscpanhellenicrecruitment on Instagram!). To keep up the good work and avoid a fashion emergency, let’s talk outfits!

Remember: when you look your best, you feel your best. With that in mind, this blog post is merely a suggestion. Wear clothes that make you feel confident and comfortable. The Columbia heat is not very forgiving or favorable–especially when you’re walking around all over campus–so be mindful of that when searching through your wardrobe.

ROUND 1 – GO GREEK: AUGUST 12

3...2...1...Action!

MAX NUMBER OF CHAPTER VISITS

WHAT TO EXPECT

Round one is virtual. You will watch a video made by each chapter AND record a video explaining yourself to submit to them. You can talk about your high school or on-campus involvement, your interests, your personality, your goals, or why you want to join a sorority. Since you are not talking directly to chapter members, it’s important to effectively–but quickly–showcase who you are and communicate your values. But, of course, keep an open mind!

WHAT TO WEAR

Casual attire: Throw on a shirt that represents your hometown, UofSC, or special organization you are involved in! With this, wear shorts or a skirt, paired with comfortable shoes, of course. Feel free to show off your style with a colorful scrunchie, sunglasses, or earrings.

ROUND 2 – PHILANTHROPY: AUGUST 13-15

This is your 2021 Panhellenic-provided T-shirt! So cute, right?

WHAT TO EXPECT

Round two is in-person. You will spend 30 minutes with each chapter where you will have conversations discussing their philanthropic causes and activities with them. Some charities may touch you on a deeper level, which is a good sign. Giving back to the community is a core value among all chapters, so make sure to ask them as many questions as you can about their philanthropy.

WHAT TO WEAR

Casual attire: Panhellenic-provided recruitment T-shirt, shorts or a skirt, comfortable shoes, and nametag. Similar vibes to round one, but feel free to dress it up more if you’re feeling it!

ROUND 3 – SISTERHOOD: AUGUST 16-18

WHAT TO EXPECT

Round three is in-person. You will spend 40 minutes with each chapter where you will hear about their activities, traditions, friendships AND have sisterhood-centered conversations with them. Sororities offer a strong support system, which enable lifelong relationships and unforgettable memories. Ask the chapter members about their big/little reveal or what is their favorite moment with their sisters.

WHAT TO WEAR

Dressy casual attire: Sundress or cute top and skirt combo, sandals or sneakers, and nametag. If you want, you can spice up your fit with jewelry or snazzy shoes!

ROUND 4 – PREFERENCE: AUGUST 21

MAX NUMBER OF CHAPTER VISITS

WHAT TO EXPECT

Round four is in-person. You spend one hour with each chapter where you will have in-depth conversations with them. After a long, emotional, and heartfelt nine days of rush, this is where you decide what chapter you hope to run home to. If you’re having trouble deciding between the two, it is highly recommended you confide in your pi chis to help you.

WHAT TO WEAR

Semi-formal attire: Cocktail dress, nice sandals or heels, and nametag. If the pandemic took away your high school homecoming, now is the time to pull out that dress and finally have a chance to wear it!

PNMs, we are so excited to meet you, and we can’t wait to see all of your stylish selves on August 12!
