National Women in Sports Day is celebrated each year on February 5. This day was created to celebrate the accomplishments of female athletes, acknowledge the influence that sports have on women's lives, and promote equal opportunities for all women in the sports industry. Our chapter is incredibly proud to have so many sisters who represent this industry in numerous ways.

This National Women in Sports Day, we are proud to highlight our sister, Kinsley Nicholson, who spent this previous summer interning for the Charleston River Dogs.

From Kinsley,

"During my freshman year of college, I sought advice from an older broadcast journalism student. She gave me one simple but powerful piece of advice: “Say yes to every opportunity that comes your way, and never look back.” I embraced that philosophy wholeheartedly when I accepted an internship with the Charleston RiverDogs, taking a significant step toward my dream career. The decision wasn’t without challenges. Moving to Charleston meant leaving my friends and family in Greenville behind and navigating the logistics of living in a new city with people I’d never met. Despite the hurdles, I dove headfirst into the experience, working 80+ hour weeks and enduring everything from long days to celebratory Gatorade showers after home game interviews.

From day one, I had the privilege of learning directly under the RiverDogs’ head broadcaster, who became an invaluable mentor. By my second day on the job, I was conducting live post-game interviews. Whether interviewing players after thrilling wins or speaking with them remotely during away weeks to write feature stories, I was able to connect with them on a personal level. Learning about their journeys, backgrounds, and passions became one of the most rewarding aspects of the internship, and sharing those stories with fans was an experience I’ll never forget.

While my primary focus was reporting and broadcasting, the internship gave me a well-rounded view of Minor League baseball. I got involved with community relations, photography, promotions, and even stepped into the shoes of Charlie, the mascot, on occasion. The sleepless nights, 6 a.m. tarp pulls, and grueling 14-hour days pushed me to my limits, but they also taught me invaluable lessons in perseverance, leadership, and seizing every opportunity.

The summer I spent with the RiverDogs wasn’t just a stepping stone in my career—it was a life-changing experience. I found a second family within the walls of the stadium and gained a deeper understanding of the hard work and heart that goes into sports. I’m incredibly proud to have been part of such an incredible organization. As I look to the future, I can’t wait to see where broadcast journalism will take me. Following my dream has been an amazing journey, and I hope to spend the rest of my life on the sidelines, sharing stories that connect players and fans alike."

We are so proud of Kinsley and all of the other women in our chapter who make such a large impact on the sports industry!
