A letter from our President
In honor of president's day, our president, Meredith Hewitt, has written a letter to the Beta Epsilon chapter!
Hey y’all!
I am so excited to introduce myself as the President of the Beta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi here at the University of South Carolina! It still feels so surreal! Serving my sisters as President is truly the greatest honor and having the opportunity to lead our Chapter is a dream come true.
I was born and raised right here in Columbia, South Carolina. So naturally, I grew up spending every single fall Saturday with my family in Williams-Brice Stadium cheering on the Gamecocks! There was no doubt in my mind that the University of South Carolina is where I wanted to spend my four years of college. Columbia is where I felt the most at home, and the University of South Carolina is a large piece of my home to me. I never had imagined myself feeling more at home anywhere else, until I stepped foot inside of ADPi for the first time.
Alpha Delta Pi was the first sorority I stepped foot in during recruitment and it still feels just like yesterday when I walked inside for the very first time. Each round of recruitment, I fell deeper in love with ADPi. I could not believe just how connected I felt to the Chapter, the girls I talked to, and discovering that my values aligned with ADPi’s! I vividly remember sitting in Preference Round, talking to girls that I knew would be my forever friends. I told them that as I looked around the room, I was inspired by each girl and that they were who I dreamed of becoming one day.
Bid Day was the day I ran to my new found home in Alpha Delta Pi. To all who asked me that year, I would tell them that it was the best day of my life, and it was because of the girls in ADPi who reshaped my perspective of home. The day was full of celebrating, decked-out in our ADPi and Dolly Parton attire! Ironically enough, a quote that I love comes from Dolly herself, “If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then, you are an excellent leader.” These words are a true reflection of my sisters in ADPi, the experience this sorority has given me, and the legacy I want to leave as President.
Fast forward to now, I can truly say that what I found in ADPi is truly what I dreamed of and more. I have grown so much to become who I dreamed of becoming through my experience in ADPi. The sisters that I have gained are women who inspire me, believe in me, and encourage me to become the best version of myself. I would not be the woman I am today without ADPi, and it’s because of the girls who saw a leader inside of me as a freshman and inspired me to become the leader I am today.
As President, my hope would be that each one of my sisters has the experience that I have had, that through their four years ADPi has shaped them to become the woman that they have dreamed of becoming. So thank you for taking the time to learn more about myself and my love for ADPi. To my sisters of the past, present, and even in the future, never forget that you have a home here in ADPi. This is where you can become the woman you dreamed of becoming! And always remember, Alpha Delta Pi is not four years, it’s for life!
Loyally,
Meredith
